Taking a break...
Aug. 9th, 2004 09:50 am...from knitting like a fiend. Started on the lacy thigh-hi's last night. 4.5 hrs had me about halfway, which is damn fast. They're not as lacy as I'd expected, more like lacy tights than hosiery, although that may be the yarn I'm using (Bernat Hot Sox, instead of Cascade Fixation). They feel good on, though.
We skipped the HSA picnic yesterday afternoon to do other things. Went to a new-to-me yarn store in the River Market--Urban Arts & Crafts. Definitely on the list of places I'm not allowed without adult supervision, and By might not count. Not so much for their yarn selection, which is mostly expensive boutique yarns, but for the dichroic glass beads, and their paper selection. My heart goes pitter-pat just thinking about it. Anyhow, we escaped from that store without buying anything other than what we'd gone in there for (knitting needles), then walked the farmer's market for fruit and veggies (ooo, peaches). Then we picked up
classics_cat and
ranjtheobscure, and saw
classics_cat off at the train station. She's off to central Missouri, and from there to Maine, in a car with her sister. After the train station, it was a mad dash to Lawrence before Yarn Barn closed, for the needles that Urban didn't have (nothing smaller than #'s, very disappointing). Also left Yarn Barn with A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, by Barbara Walker. It's got several lacy patterns I want to try on the lacy thigh-hi's.
