Rambling on
May. 1st, 2004 11:13 amWe got to a good stopping place, and C had to leave at 11, so I'm taking an early lunch. And probably a long lunch, since no one is here to complain. I think there are only 6 maint people here today, including myself and the shop grunt. The Other Dave threw a fit about something yesterday afternoon (no idea what, just that it was something in a phone call), and he left in a huff around 4, and said he wouldn't be here today. No matter. We get as much done without him most days.
C & I got all of our tulips pulled this morning, and if Donna's not in the greenhouse when I head that direction, I hope to get the rest of the shrubs in the Child Care courtyard planted. They've been sitting out in their rows, in their pots, for over a week. If Donna is in, they'll wait until C can plant them on Tuesday, 'cuz I'll spend the afternoon helping Donna get ready for the plant sale.
Ah, almost forgot about that. The JCCC Hort Dept Plant Sale is this coming Friday, May 7, at the greenhouse, from 9-4. Good plants cheap. More varieties of tomatoes and peppers than any sane person could grow. Herbs, some bedding plants and other veggies, some perennials, a few houseplants, and some nice patio pots. The proceeds go to a scholarship fund for the SCI dept.
By's working for Terry again today; he *really* wants to get that job done. By grumbled a bit last night about being there today and having to work around the tile guys, but he says the tile guys are entertaining to talk to. And he did get paid back for the materials he bought. I'd been worried about that; Terry's done a few jobs (for the city) that he hasn't gotten paid for, and some of his people are still waiting to be paid.
Next week, By works for Robyn all week. She'll be open for First Friday; they're trying to do a Mother's Day promotion that night.
C & I have had a good couple of days, salvage-wise. Yesterday, it was a bag of cut flowers in the greenhouse trash, leftovers from floral design class. I took home a 5-gal bucket full of carnations and daisies and greenery. Today, we got a large box of 3-ring binders out of building trash, and we found a little kid's jogging suit out in the parking lot, just the right size for C's boyfriend's son, all it needs is washed. And we get first pick of the tulips we dug, of course. I'm not usually that excited about tulips, but I'm going to nab a few to tuck into the iris beds. If they get munched, oh well, they were free. And I already have at home a bag of white hyacinths that were in the inner campus flower beds...those rebloom very well.
I was tired from being cold and wet for two days, so I didn't get much done last night. I practiced a bit--"Chattanooga Choo Choo" starts on high C, and I can't hit that note cold yet. Crocheted on the snowflake doily for a little while, read lj for a little while, read a book, went to bed. Very exciting.
My frst job tonight is to schlep all my scavenged paper from my car into the house. Second job is to make a place to put it. And then, my reward for making it through this week is an evening of knitting. Not sure which piece I'm going to work on, but I feel the urge. Not sure what's on tomorrow's agenda, beyond taking the recycling in to town. Monday, I told Donna I'd help in the greenhouse all day, doing last-minute stuff for the plant sale, and sorting out my stuff. Ooooooo, free plants.
