Quick Updates
Oct. 23rd, 2003 10:08 amThe monitor on the "main" computer at the shop gave up the ghost yesterday morning, so there is much competition for "Dave's" computer (the one that he brought in). And he's usually on it, playing some game or another. Must be nice--the rest of us are expected to actually work while we're here.
Spent yesterday spraying weeds. Spent all morning, and will spend most of the afternoon spraying weeds. There are probably my last nice days to do it before winter sets in. It's supposed to get cooler, and maybe rain tomorrow, and be chilly Sat. I'll probably start planting daffs, since the flowerbeds are still okay, and the tulips can wait the couple of weeks until frost kills the petunias. Poor Courtney's out watering trees again (hopefully for the last time this winter), and bored to tears.
Didn't get my planting and digging done this weekend. Too distracted by temari and knitting. Finished the 2 1/2" earth-toned interwoven ball Tuesday; it's very nice. Haven't gotten very far on the 4 1/2" interwoven. My hands can only take and hour or so at a time on that thing, then I have to do something else.
Started a new knitting project Tues night. I"ve been drooling over the "Round Trip" jacket in the Fall 2003 issue of Knitter's since I got the mag. It's cool--dolman sleeves, with a really unique and quick-to-knit construction. I'm making it out of leftover and reclaimed shades of browns and reds and rusts, rather than the very fancy handpainted wool the pattern calls for, but I think it'll be nice anyway. I got the back panel done last night, and I'm 2/3 through the garter stitch edging band, ought to finish that part tonight. Then the shoulders/front and side panels/sleeves, which are all worked as a unique cone shape, in the round, it's much less complicated than it sounds. In fact,
classics_cat and
sidhe612, you both could knit this, and would probably enjoy it.
And, ta-dah!!! There is a sock report. Been working on the Timber Frame socks during my lunch hour and breaks. Have done another 1 1/2" on the leg. Another lunch break's knitting on it, and I ought to be done with the mosaic part, and onto the simple one-color striping part, which will go MUCH faster.
I have two "would be nice to get done this winter" projects in mind. The first is a pair of Turkish or Timber Frame socks for By (must remember to measure his feet again, I lost my old measurement page). I probably have enough yarn for both, it's just that he has big feet and long legs, and socks for him take a while. The other is a pair of socks for me, in the alpaca and silk sock yarns I've got. Haven't decided on a pattern yet, I may just do color blocks or the three yarns (grey alpaca, blue alpaca, and ivory silk).
Yes, I've been thinking about string all morning. And yes, spraying is that boring.
Looking forward to tonight though: rehearsal with the Carnegie Recorder Consort at 7. Ought to be fun.
