Not a stellar start to the day
Oct. 24th, 2003 08:11 amAbout 5 hrs of sleep, because By got home late and had neat things to talk about. Had to deal with three idiots and 2 grumpy old part-timers, all before 8am. My feet are wet, because I just finished cleaning out my spray rig. And I had a catastrophic Coke failure, resulting in the loss of half a can of precious caffeine.
But it's all okay, because The Other Dave managed to knock the president's cell phone antenna off the car when he was power-washing it, and is now on a Quest For Parts (before the Pres gets his car back at 11am), so I am Watching The Shop.
Watching The Shop = getting paid to putter on the computer until people come pick up their keys.
Rehearsal last night was fun. Very much a "just for fun" group. There were four people there besides me (and I was probably the youngest by 15 years), and they told me there was a high school girl who played with them erraticly, plus the lady in charge, who was out having surgery. So a small, friendly bunch. I could sight-read everything they put in front of me on the soprano, and about half of the alto stuff, which wasn't bad for an instrument I hadn't seriously played since 1995. Must practice alto so I can remember fingerings. They gave me sheet music for some of the stuff (including a cool arrangement of Greensleeves), and Betty, the gal in charge, has ordered the books for the rest of their Xmas music, which I'll get next week. I will probably end up switching between alto and soprano. The other lady who played both C and F recorders has arthritis problems, and can't play the alto all the time, and the gal who plays just F recorders prefers to play bass. I didn't have to worry at all about the quality of my plastic alto; the group seemed to all be playing Yamaha plastics. I didn't get out my wooden sopranos, the tone would have been really different.
Got next to no knitting done last night. Between rehearsal and sparying all day yesterday, even if my hands hadn't hurt, I had to time. All I got done was about 2" on the edging for the Roundtrip sweater.
The Sock Report: Still plugging away on the Timber Frame socks during lunch. I finished the mosaic section yesterday, so the rest will go much faster.
