Argh. I really do love my family, at a distance. I've played more card games than I care to count, bitten my tongue so much that I may as well just pierce it, and soundly cursed mom's horrid guest bed. The great family togetherness afternoon on Sat went well; everyone was on their best behavior (or antipsychotic drugs, which amounts to the same thing, in a couple of cases). Our greatest achievement was not giving my sister's husband the sound thrashing he was asking for Thurs night. Harold is a trial at the best of times; Harold after 6 Budweisers is an ordeal that can only be endured with much gritting of teeth. Next Christmas, I think I'll give my sister enough money for a divorce.

But we're home now. Finally. And the cats, at least, we very happy to see us.

Managed to finish all of the gift-knitting I had planned. The white shawl was warmly received, which pleased me greatly. The rest were simple stuff, scarves for mom and my sister and grandmother. And I didn't get into too much trouble for spending money on Byron; I was worried about that. (I'd bought him 4 handmade glass marbles, in really neat swirly patterns. Don't ask how much I spent, you don't want to know.) Haven't talked to By's folks yet, to see how they liked their presents.

Didn't get nearly as much knitting done on the trip as I'd hoped too. Playing cards kept mom distracted, so she didn't make too many troublesome comments and questions. (Like, "why don't you some visit more often?") I did put about 9" in radius on the purple shawl for Robyn (which is late, but she & By haven't done their Xmas yet, so it's okay), and I've got most of the first sock in the blue sock yarn done. Haven't started the second yet, because I didn't have the attention span for it at mom's. The knotwork I'd planned took up much more of the foot (like, it covers the entire top of the foot) than I'd expected, but By likes it, so I'm happy. I'm about halfway up the leg now, and starting to get bored. It's very tempting to start another pair of Turkish socks for me before I finish this project. We'll see.
