An educational little excursion
Oct. 22nd, 2004 11:22 amA quick stop-over at the greenhouse to give Donna some 1-gal pots and play with the baby rats turned into a mushroom ID lesson for Courtney and I. Amanitas out by the barn, lots and lots of them, a couple of stinkhorns in the orchard (nontoxic, but the smell is enough to knock you out), shaggy manes on the tree trail by the pecans (tasty!), and horse mushrooms at the north end of the trail, past the last persimmon tree (also tasty). Then Courtney & I came back to the shop and googled for amanitas, just to see how poisonous they are. (The answer is, very. The LD-50 on these things is 0.1mg/kg. That's bad shit.)

We're talking, for the most part, the same people who ordered remote-controlled fart machines with the company credit card, managed to get the company they ordered them from the list them on the invoice as "backup alarms", then put them under the director's chair during the staff meeting.
