treeskinThat's my new motto. Dudes, how hard it is to plant a tree? You dig a hole, you put the root ball in the hole, leaving the pretty fluffy green end out where we can all see and enjoy it. See, nice and easy.
Advice to the contractors currently planting on campus: The entire root ball goes in the hole. Yes, you have to dig a bigger hole. I've done it before, it's not that bad, you'll live. No, the tree won't drown. Honest. Trust me. These trees are being planted in parking lot islands, raised 6" above parking lot grade, surrounded by asphalt, on a slope, with no irrigation. Drowning is the least of my worries. And don't argue with me because I'm a woman. I've bullied bigger (and smarter) contractors than you.
Gods above and below. I have this argument with EVERY landscaper that's ever been out here planting. One of my goals for this winter is to make up a sheet detailing what I expect when trees are installed here, and I'm going to make sure it goes out with every bid request.
