...I spent the whole time running around, or working at home.

Got home from work Sat with a carload of paper and plants....thanks to By, I had a place to put the paper. I still have a pile of plants to get into the ground, preferably before we leave for Heartland.

By brought home another load of stuff from that warehouse he's helping salvage--parts of sheds, some rolling cabinets. The shed parts will either be sheds, for us or other people, or will become part of the trellis we want to do over the deck. The cabinets are part of the "organize the garage" project.

And By finally got paid Sat morning, which is good. Except that, we found out yesterday that he's only getting $14/hr for Terry, and T isn't taking taxes out, which means By will have to do taxes like a contractor, which costs us a lot. By's mom recommended holding back 40% to take care of the taxes. Blech.

Sunday, we were both *really* tired, and By had to go in and work for Terry (because Terry's not organized enough to have a full day's worth of work ready at once). [livejournal.com profile] classics_cat came over and got more plants, and we played with paints and paper. After she left, By grilled stuff, and we unloaded the sofa he'd gotten from that warehouse. Nothing fancy, and the sleeper part needs work, but it's better than our old one. The old one left the house in pieces; the new one had to go in in one large piece, and that was much more tricky.

Monday, By had a little work to do for Terry, and I went plant shopping with Donna and Chris (one of D's students). It was the annual pilgrimage to Longview Gardens, which has a particularly toothsome selection of perennials, and reasonable prices. I managed to stay under budget ($50, I spent $48), and I don't want to know how much D & C spent. C had a double-decker wagon full, and we had to do some creative packing to get it all into D's car.

I came home with two more species of echinacea (E. angustifolia, E. pallida), roseroot (Rhodiola rosea), a lovely green-on-green variegated garden sage (Salvia officinalis 'Woodcote'), two talinums (purslane relatives, natives, very cute), and giant burnet (Sanguisorba tenifolia). Well, there were a few other things, but I have forgotten the list. But all neat things. And D. brought me a bush morning glory (Ipomoea leptophylla) and a native bush clematis (Clematis freemontii) from the native plant sale she went to (without me!!!) on Sat. Plus, a few more annuals, from the plant sale leftovers from school. The two native plants and a new, dark-red Japanese-style peony were my birthday presents from Donna. (So, she's getting cool socks for her birthday....people who buy me plants deserve socks.)

And after all the shopping, I came home and planted stuff and pulled weeds the rest of the afternoon and evening, while By & [livejournal.com profile] c3fyn cut down dead pine trees. Got all the stuff I bought in the ground, still need to make space for the peony and the two natives. Not a bad evening's work.

Tues, By & I spent running errands and restocking the pantry, which had gotten uncomfortably low. The trip, in order: Big Lots on State Ave, for rubbermaid bins to pack camping supplies in. Robyn's building, to drop off stuff. (Talk to Robyn, talk to Terry, talk to Albert on the way out.) The coffee shop across the alley from Robyn's building, to order the bacon for camp. (Talk to Tiffany, talk with Richard on the way out.) Pak Halal (on 75th St, I think), to order the goat for camp. (Wander around the store sniffing the cool spices.) Holy Land Cafe (next door to Pak Halal) for lunch--very very good food. Costco, for some stuff. Sam's Club, for groceries and stuff. The liquor store that shares a parking lot with Sam's, for hard cider, which they were out of. Blockbuster on Hwy 7, for a couple of new movies (Indiana Jones, the first one, and Once Upon A Time In Mexico). (Stop and talk to former PT employee from school). Liquor store in same strip mall, for hard cider and nocello--got nocello, they were out of the cider we wanted. So, after a brief discussion in the car, we head to Lawrence. To Yarn Barn, for a set of circular 2.75mm needles, to do the sleeves on The Sweater. Then to the liquor store over by Hastings, who DID have our cider. And a quick run through Hastings (quick for us, anyway), "just to look at periodicals". Then, finally, home, unpack car, put things away, eat a little dinner, make phone calls, finish doing laundry, fold laundry, put laundry away....and go ahead and put a second movie in after 9:30, because we're both still wide awake from the running. Argh.

Not sure who By's working for today. Terry had a little bit for him to do, and Robyn still hadn't heard from the potential client whose order would be due by June 3rd--she's waiting on them to pick a design, I think. *crosses fingers*

Work's not been too bad today, for being graduation week. ALl the PT but Courtney got tapped to help New Boss clean out the large groundcover bed on the N side of the gym. It's been full of weeds (2-3' tall weeds, until someone mowed the worst ones down last week)for most of a year, because Nemesis just won't do work that gets his fingernails dirty. Apparently, New Boss listened to me last week, because I wasn't asked to help. Smart man. That would have been bad.

The Sock Report: Despite the schedule the last few weeks, I've managed to finish the self-striping socks I started a while back. I like the heel shape, even though it takes more counting and attention. No stitches to pick up, so it feels like it's moving easier and faster, even if it's not. And it's a pattern I can adapt for other textures. I think this pair will go to Donna for her birthday this September.

The UnSock Report: I've put 2" on The Sweater in the past week, and got the cast-on and shaping calculated for the sleeves last night. I just finished the first row of key-pattern squares last night, and before I go too much further, I want to start the sleeves, and work them at the same time, so I can keep the color changes the same. I'm using stash yarn, and I may have to improvise a bit later on with color. But it look really good...I'm getting 8 sts/7 1/2 rows to the inch over the colorwork (which is why getting 2" done is a big deal!), and the diagonal lines in the keywork show up well, which was something I was worried about. Must remember to toss the thing on the scanner, and post pics.

And I quizzed By last night, on the way home from Lawrence, about what kind of sweater he'd wear if I were to knit one for him. I'd love to do a rich, intricate color pattern like I'm doing for myself, but that's not his style. Too bright, too much pattern. He asked for cables. May pull out the Viking Knits book some evening, and sketch some ideas. It gives me something to think about while I work on my sweater, anyway.
