The Sock Report: pics of
ranjtheobscure's Turkish socks
Feb. 10th, 2004 02:15 pmNote: the patterns in this set of socks were taken from traditional Turkish adn Persian carpet patterns. The colors were chosen for the recipient--green and yellow for his heraldic colors, red and black for his lady's colors.
These took some time to design; I had some specific ideas I wanted to include, and blessings I wanted to work into the fabric, and it took a while to find the right patterns for that.

Toe detail, "dragon" pattern, symbollizing strength and endurance.

Detail of leg pattern. The zigzags along the outside edge symbollize running water, which stands for longevity. The next pattern in is a comb pattern, and usually represents a woman, in this case,
The red and black band marks where the heel was inserted, and is also in the comb pattern, to represent the intertwining of the two lives.

Leg of sock.

Detail of back of heel. The diamonds are a protective charm against the evil eye.

Sole detail and signature. The three stacked diamonds on the sole are another general protective charm.

Sole detail of other sock.
