addendum to family stuff

Called Mom last night. Sis finally told her all of the story about Dad, with the arrest and all. Mom is horrified; she spent years living down his drunken antics, back in the day. And she's already hearing comments from folks who saw her ex in town, drunk off his gourd. Just what she wants.

Anyhow, Mom's dander is up, she's horrified that she's turning into a bad person because she's telling people "no" right and left (about damn time, IMHO), and she spent 15 minutes telling me to say "no" to Dad and Kathy before I could butt in and tell her I'd spent 30 minutes giving Sis the same talk.
Crazy Aunt Kathy is furious that neither Mom nor Sis will step up and help her poor little brother (somehow, I don't figure into her equation, and I'm grateful). Aunt Kathy let slip to Sis yesterday morning that she was advised to let dad stay in jail--by the guy she lined up to mentor and "save" him. Who is himself an alcoholic with an active problem. Which ought to say something--if another drunk thinks Dad's out of control and needs to be forced to dry out, it's probably well past time.

But Kathy is doing what she always does--covering for him. I guess she told Sis that she's going to drive to Salina every day and run him on his errands, until his court date. Trying to con Sis into the behavior she expects, but Sis has finally stopped playing! Yay!
