I'm watering trees today, so I've managed to do some knitting despite stiff hands. About an inch on the aran sandal sock (which is most of the gusset decreases); I might finish it today. I'd really like to. I even brought yarn to start a pair of the spiral rib socks, in a men's size, just in case.

[livejournal.com profile] classics_cat, remind me next time I see you--I finished one potential sock design for you last night, and i'm playing with another. I'd kinda like you to tell me if the pattern combinations look right to you--that's something the one reference I've got doesn't show very well.

Non-sock knitting: I got one sleeve sewn up and installed in the tied-up tee; didn't have the attention span last night for the second. Worked a bit on the Shades Of Red tunic; I may take out one of the stripes though; I'm not sure I like the red/yellow/blue variegated with what I've got done so far. Must remember to ask By for a second opinion tonight.

Non-knitting news: I think I'm going to turn down a part-time teaching gig for this fall. I just can't justify it with my current work schedule. The class is "techniques of landscape maintenance", and it's Monday and Wed evenings, 6-8:40. Which would put me home well after my bedtime on Wednesdays, and cranky all day Thursday--I can't get away with just coming in late on the days after evening classes, the way Donna does.

Received a box from By's folks last night. Some old t-shirts (for temari cores), the usual stack of Sunday comics, and two birthday presents for By. One was a dvd of Goldfinger, which he was pleased by. The other was meant more for me, I think--two more volumes of Weldon's Practical Needlework, which are reproductions of needlework books a company in Britain started publishing in the 1890's. All kinds of really cool stuff in there--knitting and crochet and netting and marame lace (yes, there is such a thing) and fancy embroidery. Much more my speed than By's, but I suspect that he may be getting another package from his folks soon with a more Byron-oriented book selection.
