Nothing terribly exciting to report from the rest of yesterday. Went and played cards last night, which was lots of fun, but kept me up too late. 10:30 doesn't sound that late, but I was crashing, so that's too late.

Donna found the interview questions for the greenhouse job yesterday, and made me a copy. And she sat me down and we went over what to say, what to emphasize, generally what the department is looking for. (In case you're curious, the department is looking for a design background, not for this job in particular, but to add to the staff, because Dr S from KSU won't be teaching Landscape Design much longer, and they'd like to have his potential replacement on hand before he leaves. And my degree is Hort/Landscape Design. So....) And that reminds me--must pull that list out of my pocket before those shorts go in the laundry. Given a bit of time to prepare, the questions are nothing difficult; given an idea of what the department will consider a "good answer", they're easy. So, one more card in the already stacked deck. Now all I'm waiting for is the transcript to come through.

And--something I found very funny--she told me, very earnestly, to not say a word about my lifestyle to Dr G or Lois, because they're among the "very conservative people in the science department." Give me credit for having at least that much sense, Donna.

Donna's actually talking seriously about getting rid of her hired help (DG). At this point, she's got one fireable incident documented, but the policy around here is three. So, Donna's watching DG very closely, and trying to write stuff down, which sucks, because Donna doesn't have the time to supervise someone that closely. Donna doesn't think she can use the number of times DG calls in sick as a firing offense, but it seems to be that if someone can't work a full week for two months, and consistently doesn't show up on Fridays, maybe they're not that sick. Or they're too sick to do that job. But that's just me.

And Donna's also trying to figure out to arrange the office, stuff like that. Her office (which the new FT person would share) was intended as a 1-person office. DG gets half of it now, but Donna plans to take away her dedicated desk & computer & phone when the FT person starts. At that point, there would be Donna and the new FT person, DG, a work study guy (B), plus at least one instructor (because the instructor's office is similarly full, and has a nasty-tempered not-taking-his-meds person camped out in there) floating in and out. And students, who come in to talk to Donna, or borrow her books. Too many people. Donna told me yesterday that she's got a new potting bench that needs assembled and set out in the headhouse, and she's probably going to assign that to DG as her "desk" work area, and generally limit how much "desk" time DG does. Nothing else, that may convince DG to just leave, and that would open the door for Courtney to get on over there too.

The next few weeks ought to be interesting.

Sounds very good, though cramped. Even so, a much better work environment than currently. :)
