treeskinIn case you've not been paying attention, the weather forecasters are expecting an icestorm to move into the area some time today, and stay through tomorrow. It's certain enough that some schools are closing early in the afternoon. Blech. Lovely way to spend my first day back after the holiday.
Looked at the weather forecast yesterday, and then ran out to get my new work boots (which I've been putting off since the end of October). My old ones are still fairly comfy, but they're developing holes in the sides, and I need waterproof warm and dry tomorrow. Hurray for new boots.
By spent some quality time with his new tile saw last night, figuring it out and starting to cut tile for that countertop. He says it works very well, almost as fast as the commercial models he's used. So, he expects that one solid evening's work ought to see all the tile cut. I'm oggling the layout for the tile, thinking it'd make a very good quilt. Ah, wait, he's scanned that, you folks need a picture. Or maybe not, can't find the pic right now. Have to ask him what he did with it.
The cats are still pissed with us, because we treated them all for fleas again on Sunday. *sigh* This will be easier to get completely under control with Frank and his stuff out, so we can get all the carpet out of that room.
Frank hasn't been here since Satuday night. He said he'd be back Sunday or Monday; my guess is he couldn't get anyone to come "help" him pack. Ah well. He'll be out next Saturday.
Got an urge to bake yesterday afternoon, and cranked out one batch of cinnamon rolls, and a half-batch worth of garlic rolls, just to try the idea. They worked pretty well....take basic bread recipe, add garlic powder and oregano to the dough, and roll out the dough like you would for cinnamon rolls. The filling was a tablespoon of melted butter, about three tablespoons of asiago cheese (or whatever was leftover in the container), about a tablespoon of parmesan cheese, more garlic and oregano, and enough olive oil to make all that spreadable. Rub filling into dough like for cinnamon rolls, roll up, slice, place on baking sheet, let rise one more time, etc. One roll = garlic dragon breath.
The UnSock Report: I've completed two chemo caps so far, with a skein and a half left over. I may go ahead and knit those up as caps too, and send them in to the hospital for anyone who can use them. I'd hoped to get a lap blanket done, but looking ahead to the weather and how tired I know I'm going to be tomorrow night, that's probably not a reasonable goal. I will start it anyway, but not stress about it, because the blanket's not needed immediately.
Just for the record, Lionbrand Polarspun is a b***h to knit. Can't see the stitches, can't count rows, just keep going and hope for the best. Any booboos aren't going to show anyway. But it is very very soft.
My Fenna shawl was 18" deep at center back, when I measured it last night, and is now a Very Large Fluffy Thing in my lap. Had to rescue a dropped stitch last night. I'd done 4" above it by the time I noticed, which really sucked; the mohair loop makes it tricky to figure out which strand is the yarn, and which is just a loop.
Started a trial pattern last night. Been thinking about what to do with the novelty yarns I've been given over the years. Most are just one skein of something, and are short skeins at that. I could do a bunch of short novelty yarn scarves, but geez, I'd like to think I've got more imagination than that. I'm considering one or two entrelac scarves, with a row of squares in each yarn. Some yarns obviously, I'd be able to repeat, and I have nice stash yarns that I can stretch things with. Such things would make decent gifts when finished, too.

Date: 2005-01-04 08:07 pm (UTC)The way I interpreted the pattern, those 19 sts in the middle are the back gusset, the rest to either side, except for the 5 border sts at the edges, are the "wings". I tend to count the YO's as the outside edges of the wings.
As long as you're consistent with whatever you decide, it's all good.
