Not only is it No Nap Day (third day in a row), I can't even go hide from the kids in the bathroom for 5 minutes, because there is a small blonde person homesteading in there, and contemplating the mysteries of going potty. *sigh*

Got the front yard mowed, except for the bottom of the ditch. Left that part, because the kids were following me and the mower around, and I didn't want them that close to the road. The Boy helped me mow for 5 laps arpund the yard, walking beside the mower (on the side away from the discharge), and holding on to the handle. He was very excited about it, and really good about staying behind the mower, and keeping his feet away from the mower. I think my neigh or was worried about the kids following the mower; halfway through the yard, she brought her daughter up and set her to watch the monsters so I could finish unencumbered.

Talked to D this morning. She's starting to sound more balanced, and less medicated. An old friend came in from Iowa to visit for the weekend; they'd been planning that for months. She said going out with JF and doing something that ordinary helped a lot. She's still fighting the daughter over her late husband's estate, and working with her lawyer to establish herslef as the common-law wife. Which her late husband helped a lot--he left no will, but all kinds of papers where he named her as his wife, and those are a big help. He also was in the habit of putting little brass plates on the underside of all the furnitue he made, with his name, and the date, and naming whomever he made that piece for. Most of the stuff he did in the house has her name on it, and that helps too.

My "handwork for the holidays" box now has two hat and scarf sets, a boyish stocking hat, and a heavily cabled cap. Plus a packed of fabric pieces pre-cut for a dresden plate quilt; By found it at Urban Mining last week. Someday soon, I need to spend a couple days weaving in ends, but I'm pretending they don't exist this week.

My dear hubby brought me a treasure last Friday....he found a largish cigar box containing a bunch of pieces of old crocheted lace samples, and woven tape for Battenburg lace, and embroidery threads. He'd thought I could use the laces for my dolls, but I'm thinking of using them to start a sampler book for myself. They're all well-done, two or three pattern repeats, in a crisp thread that makes it easy to count the stitches. And a couple are patterns I've not seen before, which always makes me happy. I've got one figured out, I think; I'm going to crochet a bit this evening, see if I've got it.

Also been making doll stuff, mostly dresses, because I've got a few people I've given dolls to, and would like to have some doll accessories for gifting occasions. I made a black linen dress with ivory lace on the hem, cuffs, and broad collar for D's doll. Old-fashioned and formal, but not strictly a mourning dress. Which reminds me, I need to photograph the dress before I give it away; I need to remember some of the detailing.

On a fine September morning, *I* am mowing the front yard, and grumbling about it. My kids are on the shade, in the part of the yard where I'd already mowed, playing "golf" by batting pine cones around with sticks.
