Jul. 29th, 2011 05:32 pmWe are home, the kids in their own beds napping, car unloaded, half unpacked, and the neighbor has already been up with our mail. (And I need to go shopping for a thank-you present for her; we're thinking a couple flowers she wants in her garden.) And we have consumed the only can of cola in the house, because it was cold, and went with rum.
Trip was mostly uneventful. Kids weren't too bad on the ride, not for their ages and the length of the drive. The in-car dvd player helped immensely. By's folks installed a swing set in their yard, which the kids didn't take to, and a tire swing, which they loved. And they got to spend some ti.e with Neice, who is 8, and very patient with the little kids.
It should have been Neice and Nephew visiting with us, but Nephew, just turned 3, spent the week in the hospital with a strep infection that went into his GI tract and very nasty. We heard this morning that he's better today, and may get off the IV today, and out of the hospital tomorrow. *crosses fingers*
We pushed last night and made it to the west side of St Louis late, checked into a hotel at 1:38am, and had everybody in bed by a little after 2am. Made for a short trip today, and let us treat ourselves to a long walk through The Brass Armadillo, a large, air-conditioned antique mall. The Boy was due for his nap, so he draped over Papa's shoulder the whole time, but The Miss led me through the store and really did well. She pointed out every doll and toy truck in the place, but she was content with a little bear.
There's lots more to tell, but my phone needs charged, and I'm feeling slothfull. More later.
