Feb. 28th, 2011 12:05 amAfter some quietly frantic searching, I found the missing cat. Quiet, because I'm trying not to wake the kids. Frantic, because Baggins has gotten steadily frailer this winter, and has taken a sharp turn down the last 3-4 days. He can still walk most of the length of the house, but as he went past me, it looks like he's having trouble using his back legs. He doesn't want to be handled, hasn't eaten (as far as I can tell) in a few days, and....odd as this sounds, smells "off." More than just a cat smell, this is a "sick old man" smell.
No possibility of money for a vet, and at his age and level of frailty, it would be cruel anyway.
I'm afraid to go to sleep tonight, because I. not sure he'll be with us when I wake. That's definitely best for him, though.
And now I'm going to go check on my cat, and cry some more.
