Well, they finally did it.
Jan. 29th, 2011 09:17 amAfter weeks of fighting to get Grandma's supplemental insurance reinstated, Mom learned yesterday that having Grandma declared incompetant by her doctor was the only way it was going to happen. (Because Grandma is old enough and sick enough that no insurance company will take her unless forced. No, really our health-care system is fine.) Grandma's doctor said it was past time for that and did the papers, Grandma signed without asking or caring what she was signing.
Mom's torn between feeling guilty for doing that to her mother, and relieved because it's finally out in the open. And Mom's older brother, who actually has power of attorney, doesn't care as long as he isn't bothered.
After Grandma's stunt yesterday with the lady who sets up Meals On Wheels, telling her that Grandma didn't need the diabetic meals, she wasn't diabetic and didn't heave any food restrictions.....yeah. It's time.
I'm sorry Mom's got to go through this, but I'm glad it's done, so she can override Grandma when she won't take care of herself.
