then I can settle into the serious business of enjoying my holiday break. I think there are 3 maint staff (counting myself) here today. The other grounds guy plans to goof off on the internet all day, the plumber has a bag of textbooks and a pack of highlighters to occupy him, and I brought knitting. Very productive, we are.

Stayed up way too late last night, but it was nice having [livejournal.com profile] classics_cat over for the evening, supposedly just to grab some #10 needles, but she stayed to knit and gossip. There was much giggling as By read the Very Secret Diaries of the Fellowship of the Ring to us from the computer. Pervy hobbit fanciers, woo hoo!

The Sock Report: Never did find the original toe chart for the Greco-Turkish Socks, but managed to reconstruct somethign clos enough by squinting at the finished sock. Note to self--start both toes at the same time next time!!! (Second note to self: must get more #2 sock needles.) Got the toe of the second sock done last night while [livejournal.com profile] classics_cat was over, despite the show-and-tell of other art, giving of Yule presents, and giggling. Have done only two rounds since I got to work.

By bought League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" last night, but we talked too much to watch it closely last night. Ah well, means it'll be fresh again tonight.

More later. Must knit.

Am listening to Morning Edition. Daniel Shore's piece on civil liberties and Bush's end-run around the Constitution ended with the comment: "The question is, will this administration listen to the Supreme Court?"

Too scary to contemplate.

Time to go do something workish for a little bit.

Am 2" into the leg of the second Greco-Turkish Sock (about halfway through the first pattern repeat, out of four pattern repeats).

For some strange reason, I stopped on the dock of the facilities building this morning, and peeked in the recycle bin from print shop. Jackpot!!!! Most of a ream of good copier-type paper (white), some pale slate grey & flecked parchmenty stuff that's 11x17 (and most of a ream of that, too!), a big pile of narrow (2-5" wide) strips of glossy photo-type papter, and some 1" wide strips of an off-white linen-textured slightly heavier paper, a little printing on it, but it has all kinds of potential.

All white or very pale stuff, but that's very easy to fix, and it's all free.

Must check that bin more often.

Back to my lunch, and more knitting.

I stand corrected--only doing 3 pattern repeats on the Greco-Turkish socks, and I just finished the first one, so I'm a third done. Happy day.
