Bitching about work
Jan. 23rd, 2003 02:22 pmIt is still son-of-a-bitch cold outside. The temp's up to a balmy 7 degrees--doable, if not for the wind. I haven't felt warm all day.
I'm STILL chasing people trying to get the last of the stuff on the tree trail arranged for. The general contractors, this time, who swear they faxed the final list of tree replacements to me, and to my boss, and to the nursery. Funny thing, no one I've talked to has seen this list. You know, I wouldn't be that upset if they just came out and said that they'd spent too much on this project, and it's as done as it's going to get. That would be fine. It would be done, clear and simple. But this 3-month-long pass-the-buck session has inflamed my last nerve. And my boss's. And the nursery is getting, well, troubled, because the contractor was supposed to shell out bucks for these last 20 (guessing, since I've not gotten the list) trees, and at about $250 each (again, guessing, since I lack the list) that's a lot of money in fairly specialized trees that the nursery has had on reserve, waiting for our contractor.
This project, according to the original schedule, should have been done about 6 months after I started here. I've worked here full time 2 1/2 years. Blech--2 years past due.
Resolution: never, never will I take a job where my primary work is interfacing with contractors and subcontractors. I'd probably go postal.
