The Sock Report: Finished the first of my purse socks in the water truck yesterday, got all the way finished with the toe and into the foot of the second. These are the socks in that 75/25 cotton/nylon blend. Soft, but they don't have the memory (holds shape) that the wool blends do.

The UnSock Report: By's sweater is done up to the underarms, split front and back, and I'm about 2" from the neck shaping on the back. Just started on the second two skeins of yarn, too, which means I'll probably finish the sweater with just 6 of the 6-oz skeins. I'm halfway through the points on the second (of three) side on the maple leaf shawl. That's slow and fiddly, and I have to have the chart close. Haven't worked on the lily of the valley shawl lately...need to pumice more of the scratchy spots off my hands first, so they don't snag the yarn.

Pulled out an old UFO/UPO (unplanned object) while I was cleaning this weekend, and I think I have a plan for it.

My yarn order from discountyarnsales.com should be in tomorrow--grey sock yarn, to try out the lace knit thigh-highs, and dark sage green Simpy Soft acrylic to do an origami kimono in. Ooooooo, new yarn.

origami kimono? Do tell!

I do love Simply Soft... inepensive, easy to work with, and its the only yarn that my brother has ever picked up the finished product of, and exclaimed "Wow! This afghan actually feels cuddly!"

Origami kimono (http://www.bonniefranz.com/Free_Patterns.html), the adult version, is an upgrade (from a children's garment) from a winter 2003 (I think) issue of Knitter's Magazine. [livejournal.com profile] classics_cat has already started hers, in Bernat Aspen (also an acrylic) she got off smileysyarns.com. I'm going to hustle to finish By's black sweater, then start mine.

And, I can justify starting something new, because the sewing/yarn room is piled so high with boxes from moving F in, I can't even see most of my yarn, let alone reach it.

You might check out discountyarnsales.com, if you haven't already. $6/bag, for a bag of 3, 6-oz skeins of Simply Soft. Seems to me they run about a third less than retail...smileysyarns.com is cheaper, but they're selling production overruns and ends of dyelots, so the supply is erratic, and they won't have all the colors.

You know what else is surprisingly soft? The Walmart house brand of yarn....Mainstays, or something like that. Very very cheap, softer than most of the worsted-spun acrylics on the shelf. Not as nice as Simply Soft, but much better than Red Heart.
