...and announced that campus will be closed as of noon. Should have done that when we realized we had to shovel the same set of steps at least every hour to keep it clear, but better late than never.

So, hello, overtime.

Last place Courtney and I shovelled, the end we started on had 1/4" of snow on it by the time we finished.

We haven't been using icemelt on steps and sidewalks since 8 or so...just too much snow on top of it for it to work.

I've come in and run my coat and coveralls through the dryer twice now, and I'd looking forward to the dry socks I brought with me for the ride home.

I don't want to think about what the roads will be like on the way home. Of course, it's entirely possible I'll end up staying past my usual quit time. Blech.

And the next person who stops me on the sidewalk to tell me, while I'm shovelling, how pretty the snow is, is going to get an icemelt enema!

Got to leave work early, because the Guy In Charge Of Snow noticed I'd been shovelling all day, and he decided I'd worked hard enough. Took me 30 minutes to clean the snow drift from around the car so I could leave.

Took an hour to get home; some of the roads were worse at 4pm than they were at 5:30am. Our dirt road was particularly bad...I think the county has plowed it, but the snow's still fresh enough that everything is white, and there are no shadows, or sense of perspective to make little details like the edges of the road show up.

Got high centered halfway up the driveway. (I must admit, it took several tries to get that far, but that's where my gallant little Kia just couldn't push through.) The guy across the street noticed, kept me company while I shovelled the drift out of the way, and kindly pushed me to better traction. Then we stood in his driveway for a few minutes and chatted and watched his dogs play in the snow.

My tired self is going to go have tea and tylenol and soup, and maybe a little knitting. Good night, all.
