General Update: Only stayed a couple of hours at the retirement party Sat; I hadn't given any thought to how smoky the place would be, and my eyes were burning when I left. Was snuffly and miserable most of Sunday as a result.
Did a little running around Sun & Mon--shopping for storage drawers and a new computer chair Sunday, to pick up pearls from the stringer, and price stuff at Lowe's on Monday. I swiped a pile of paint chips, to cut up for accents on my books. Free art supplies, woo hoo!
I did manage to finish my first Coptic-stitched book Sat night. 10 signatures (6 pages each) of the paper I'd scavenged from school, with a medium reddish-brown leather cover, sewn with blue pearl cotton. I keep going over and petting it, and thinking, "gee, I actually made that". Don't have any idea what I'm going to put in it, but it's a neat book anyway. I love the exposed stitching. Must do more of these.
Bookbinding is officially a hobby: Sunday, we went out and shopped for storage for the associated toys and tools. (Well, the stacking drawers we bought also hold most of the smaller art supplies, so it's not as bad as it could be.)
The Sock Report: Finished the first of the Magic Stripes socks in the car Sunday, and started the second. The self-striping worked ok, but I'm jsut not excited about the colors. These may be Xmas sox for a relative with less color sense. Also frogged out a self-striping "crocodile" patterned sock I'd started a year or more ago; the pattern just wasn't developing, and I'd put it away in disgust. Will try again with that yarn, and larger needles. And I finally got a pattern that's working in the orange alpaca yarn. Just had trouble hitting gauge with this yarn, for some reason, so I'm doing a toe-up, try-it-on-every-10-rnds pattern, dressed up with cables. So far, so good--just finished the toe this morning. I get extra points for (a) remembering to add the reinforcement yarn at the start, and (b) not needing a reference book for the cable.
