Let the head-shaking ensue...

I am appalled by the state school board's decision. Not at all surprised, they've been headed this way for a while, but gee whiz, people....I'm afraid to call my mom this week. I'm gonna get an earful.

There was good news yesterday. J'nee the Annoying announced that she was quitting the end of the week, said her schoolwork was just too much for her to keep up with and work too. Yay!!!! I really don't care about why or how, just that she'll be gone after tomorrow, and I don't have to babysit her ego anymore. Now we just need to get rid of DG, and get some competant part-time staff in here (yes, we've got someone in mind, if DG leaves soon enough).

By had a rough morning yesterday. He got in and had to help Robyn entering invoices into a spreadsheet she'd set up a while back, although she'd forgotton why she'd wanted all that detail entered in the first place. Anyway, in the process, he found how how far behind she was on the sales taxes, and it's not pretty. As he said last night, this is the universe pushing him to get out fast.

Only got 2 squares finished last night.
Estrogen afghan total: 32 of 169.

Tonight's string: kilt hose.
(Yes, I'm scheduling my string now. It's the only way I'm going to get things done.)

Commentary on the recent KS school board decision

These were posted on the campus listserve. Not much response on the list so far, but I'm very amused.

Now that the Kansas School Board has spoken,I think we need to adjust our science curriculum here. Of course, some course titles need changing:

1. Principles of Chemistry to PRINCIPLES OF ALCHEMY.
2. Principles of Biology to MYTHS OF DARWIN
3. Principles of Cellular and Molecular Biology to WHAT ARE THOSE TINY THINGS?
4. Human Anatomy to NAKEDNESS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG
5. Environmental Science to GLOBAL WARMING? PSHAW !
6. Laboratory Safety to WHAT'S A LAB?
7. General Nutrition to DON'T WORRY. GOD WILL PROVIDE
8. Ecology to CONNECTIONS? DON'T BELIEVE THEORIES.
9. General Genetics to AMINO ACID? WHAT'S THAT?
10. Geography to WHY THE SUN TRAVELS AROUND THE EARTH

A later posting offered:
INTELLIGENT DESIGN FOR DUMMIES
AMINO ACID--JUST SAY NO
AIDS--GOD'S PUNISHMENT FOR GAYS
for Anthropology: WHY GOD MADE WHITE PEOPLE BETTER
for Electronics: LITTLE BITS OF GOD MOVING THROUGH THE WIRES
for Software: ITS TOO COMPLICATED TO BE CREATED BY MAN--HOW GOD DESIGNED MICROSOFT

Let the sarcasm flow :)

Odd things I find on the internet

I really like Ursula Vernon's art, if only because she makes me look normal :)

I direct your attention to this page, and the wombat tarot and battlefield hamster drawings.

Since not all of you read [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes...

I'm linking to this beautiful satire on the recent state school board decision.

I think it needs to be a poster.

And one more link set of links...

Just for Tristan, who was disturbed by the idea that there might be a coleus variety named "Armegeddon":

I found one. Edit: I am corrected. It is "Apocolypse", not "Armegeddon". I kept looking, but didn't find a coleus "Armegeddon". Oh, well.

It's not as obnoxious as I'd expect from a plant by that name, especially a coleus, but there it is.

Coleus 'Christmas Candy', however, is as bad as the name suggests.

And because my boyfriend is a Star Wars geek, I offer for your viewing pleasure coleus 'Darth Vader'. For the Potter fans, feast your eyes on coleus 'Lord Voldemort' (also rather tamer than I'd expected for the name). The Trekkies can enjoy coleus 'Vulcan'.

A vegetative illustration of where I and most of my friends are going, if my mother's church is correct: coleus 'Satanic Embers'.

I think 'Sedona' is my favorite. Such a wonderful mellow shade of orange.

Edit: today's winner of the "Strangest cultivar name given to a rather normal plant" is coleus 'Brave New Artichoke'. (I shit thee not, it's for sale at glasshouseworks.com . Really. Go look for yourself.)

For the Pastafarians in the crowd...

I present the Flying Spaghetti Monster Hat.

If you talk to me nice enough, I might be talked into making these for people.
