Not moving fast today

I'm blaming it on the weather, but that whole getting to bed after midnight every night for two weeks thing has probably contributed.

We're going to lose our apricot crop (in the school orchard) tonight or tomorrow night. ISilly tree has been blooming since last Saturday, and it's supposed to hit 24 degrees (or colder) the next couple of nights. No help for it. If it were only getting down to 30 or so, well, we've got stuff we could drape the tree it, it's small enough.

The peaches are iffy too, they're budded out already, and 'Belle of Georgia' isn't the most cold-tolerant variety. **crosses fingers** And two of the apple trees are trying to leaf out, so we've got to watch those. Damn global warming, screwing up the weather and confusing my trees.

Did manage to get 8 flats seeded last night, even with the time spent hunting obscure cherry trees. Today, I've GOT to make myself sit down and grade, and do class stuff. Which, I'm sure I don't need to add, I really don't want to do. Nine weeks to finals....nine weeks to finals.....

Should I put plastic or something on my roses, or will they be okay?

I might toss something over them the next couple of nights, if they're trying to leaf out already. Just in case. Especially that one you said is down to one cane, that'll be the one to worry about.

They're fairly small trees, I think they produced less than a dozen apples each last year. The frost tonight and tomorrow night won't hurt the trees themselves, but it might get the flower buds.

And it is only 2 out of the 6 or 7 she's got out there. Wish I could remember which varieties the two early birds are, I'd know not to plant those myself.

I'm personally aiming for mid-late blooming selections, so I can avoid this situation.

We can always make a Saturday run to city market and buy a couple of bushel's. My grandma taught me to make apple pie filling, apple jelly, and then can it. I can still make the stuff, it is the canning part that I'm scared of. I figure if we team up, we might be able to pull this off :)

Could be arranged. I have all the canning equipment, and will have a place to do it by September. And I have a source for free pears. It's about time to do pear butter again.

Oooo! I have recipes, too.
