Just for the record

...stranded knitting is much harder to do while surfing than regular. Especially on these tiny needles.

Not much going on--we've hit the *very* slow season at work (I'm knitting at work, too). And at home, well, I can knit, or I can type. I've been knitting.

Current project: the first of a pair of white & purple, Turkish-style socks on size 2 needles. Think large plastic toothpicks here--the needles are 2.75mm in diam; my stitch gauge is 9 sts to the inch. By's decided I've completely lost it; I'm starting to wonder if he's right. But damn, the pattern looks cool.

Almost forgot--if anyone is near Johnson County Community College between now and the Friday before Christmas, there is a display of my temari balls in the Hort Center lobby. General business hours. Even has my right name on it.

Congrats on the display.

Well what do you know - you're probably the only person with her balls on display at JCCC.

Congratulations on the display! But I'm confused..what's your right name? Do I know it? Have I been calling you something else???

"jera" is actually a nickname....I started using way back when at KSU, as my userid. It stuck. The name on the display is J. R. Schroeder. I've got a "don't ask, 'cuz I won't tell" policy about my given name; I've never liked it. My mother still uses it, and Sean & Renee, because they knew me in high school.

Oh, ok. I have a similar thing...I tend to wince when someone calls me "Tracy", even though that's what my mama named me.

Somewhere in the back of my brain I knew that Jera was a nickname, but I didn't know you went by Schroeder.

Yeah. We got married just after finals week, May '93, and then went straight into summer school, and shortly after that it started raining, and there was kinda a miniflood where we didn't get evacuated, but everything was a mess, and then the big flood in July, where we did get evacuated....By then, the 1-month grace perid to register the name change was long past, and it just never seemed important to either of us. Maybe if we have kids, I'll change my name to Phillips; it'd be easier to manage the paperwork related to children that way.
