the joy of finishing things

The Sock Report: finished the Timber Frame socks last night. They'rein my take-it-to-work knitting bag; I'll finish the ends over my lunch break.

The UnSock Report: got one sleeve's worth of ends, plus most of the ends on the back of the Round Trip sweater done. I've got about 3 hr's worth of work left on that.

Picked up the Lopi sweater from the pile of unfinished projects last night, and got a lot done. Started attaching sleeves to the body and doing the yoke. I can only work on that for about 2 hrs at a time; it's just too heavy for more than that. Seeing the sleeves on the body, I'm wondering now if the hem is going to fall where I want it, or if I should have made the body of the sweater longer. I'll take a close look at it when I've got more of the yoke done. Not hard to fix, just tedious.

Started another pair of socks as a reward for finishing two projects this weekend. In the Fall 2003 issue of Knitter's, there's a cool sock pattern constructed out of interlocking diamonds and triangles. The finished sock looks very graphic and modular. Quite cool, and I've had trouble resisting. Since I had so much blue yarn left over from the Timber Frame socks, they'll be in three shades of blue Wool-ease Sport, #2 needles. Which gives me a finer gauge than the pattern uses, but the decreases are all given as proportions rather than stitch count, and adjusting is very easy.

Had to Rescue A Kitten yesterday afternoon. I realized I was missing one around 5pm, about the same time I started hearing plaintive mews from the back of the house. Three cabinets later, I found Faulks in the closet in the back bathroom, where hemust have been since I went in there looking for something before lunch (12:30 or so). He was VERY happy to see me.

Decided to try out my new fingernail polish last night. It's quite odd, seeing bright red nails beyond the cuffs of my work sweatshirt. Be a good trial run for the stuff though, if it'll last through a day at work, it ought to hold upthrough the annual show no problem.
