The sun will come out....

...probably after we all leave this evening. It has not warmed up like "they" said it would. Grrrr. I'm tired of cold.

Looks like the trip north will go as scheduled this weekend. We weren't sure, the beginning of the week; Rob was sick, and Muriel thought she was catching it. Everyone's better now.

Too much time to think today

Shovelling snow and ice out of drains in the parking lot doesn't take much brains. So, I've been mulling over The Handmaid's Tale. Yikes. That's the only conclusion I can come to.

Talked with Mom about it some, last night. She'd read it a few years ago. It had spooked her too, so the same reasons.

Just the whole idea....the way that group snuck into power. The society pictured in the book doesn't seem realistic, but taking power a little bit at a time, quietly, in the name of public morality and safety--that's too familiar. It makes me wonder about those in power now, and what their real agenda may be. Makes me want to bury a vault in the back acre, and start stashing needful things (some cash, medicines, food, seeds). And I'm not normally that paranoid.
