Two loads got
jdoryt's stuff out of the storage unit and to our place. We had a nice time that evening, talking with D & T and feasting on grilled meat and strawberries (for dessert).
Yesterday was Grounds Foreman's last day at work...odd and awkward for everyone. The bosses threw him a going away party, which was worse, no one knew what to say, because we all knew why he was leaving.
Other than that, the day was fairly productive. Or maybe because of that, we all went out to work and not think about it. Courtney and I got 4 loads of mulch put down in the morning. She was pretty distracted in the afternoon--she got a job offer she's trying to decide about. It's a sales position at a wholesale nursery we deal with, working under someone she knows and likes, but it's a 5 and a half day work week, and fifty cents less an hour. And her mom, who is currently her free child care provider, is wanting to go back to work.
By had yesterday off, so he spent it getting caught up on paperwork at home, and napping with the cats a little, and he got countertops on my paper-arts benches. He's working for Robyn today and tomorrow. She will be open for First Friday tomorrow night; I think he said it was going to be a display of some of her mom's doll collection.
C & A are coming down from Omaha tonight for Fire Festival, and bringing By's new drum with them, so I think I'm going to skip rehearsal so I can see them. That and I just need the nap.
The Sock Report: Had an hour between lunch and the going away party yesterday at work, so I got another 2" done on the leg of By's sock. I'm hoping for rain most of today, so I can finish that sock and start another pair.
The UnSock Report: Am still not done with the U Can 2 shell. Was putting it on the new needle Monday afternoon, and thought, "hmmm, something doesn't look right here." Sure enough, gauge was off. Lots. I ripped the whole thing out and started over, AGAIN. Grrrr. I WILL finish the thing, even if it takes me six months. It's becoming my new mission in life.
I started the gossamer lily of the valley shawl Monday afternoon; I just couldn't help myself. It begins with the edging, worked lengthwise, down one of the short sides, then that corner is worked, then stitches are picked up along the "inside" of the edging and the interior pattern and the other two sides of the shawl are worked at the same time. I put it down last night after finishing that first corner. Don't have a pic of my work, but you can see the magazine's pic of it here, on the right side of the page. Nice, isn't it?
Oh, and for the knitting addicts who read this, the new issue of Knitty is up. Some very cool stuff there this time.
